Detoxification is the first step Serenity House provides for their clients keeping them comfortable and minimizing discomfort that can be experienced at this time. Detox takes place is a comfortable home like setting and atmosphere with around the clock nursing care. There is also a physician that’s on call daily around the clock if needed.

Detoxification from alcohol at The Serenity House in Vermont usually last around 4 days depending on the individual’s progress and needs. They suggest the use of Librium which is a benzodiazepine that’s used to treat alcohol withdrawal symptoms which include shakiness and to also prevent seizures. Other medications can be administers for the symptoms of nausea or diarrhea if needed.

Detoxification from opiates lasts for around 7 days but can be shorter or longer depending on the individual’s progress and needs as well. During the first couple of days their clients can be assessed 4 times which the client chooses. Necessary medications are prescribed according to the needs determined by a clinical opiate withdrawal scale.

• Days 3 and 4, three assessments are done each day
• Days 5 and 6, two assessments are done each day
• Day 7, one assessment is done that day.

Chlordiazepoxide which is Librium is also used during Serenity House’s opiate detoxification protocol including other medications if needed for nausea, stomach cramps, aches and pains, and diarrhea.

There are standard protocols Serenity House follows during the detoxification process but they’re tailored to accommodate the needs of their clients individually because detox can vary for each person. The most common detoxification protocols that are accommodated at Serenity House are withdrawal from alcohol and opiates but they also provide detox protocols for benzodiazepine and cocaine as well.

For almost 4 decades Serenity House has offered a safe haven for treatment and sober living to alcoholics and drug addicts. Their primary purpose is to provide their clients and their families with information, skills, and the resources necessary to obtain and sustain an alcohol free and drug free lifestyle.

Rapid Drug Detox Center in Michigan provides their patients with effective, safe and affordable ways to get their life back and be free from opiate addiction. They are the only facility that offers the RDD Method which is an anesthesia detox from opiates that is a safe and effective method. They are also the only rapid detox center in the country that performs the anesthesia detox procedure in a JCAHO Accredited Hospital operating room and has 2 physicians that are Board Certified present during the anesthesia detox procedure.

Detox programs at RDD Center include Rapid Anesthesia Detox and Naltrexone Therapy for the detoxification of opiate drug addiction including narcotic opiate drugs. They make sure the patient is a good candidate for rapid drug detox by providing thorough medical evaluations, history, physical exam, EKG, blood work and urinalysis. If the patient is a good candidate an individualized aftercare plan is set up with a psychologist. When the aftercare plan is set up, their patients meet with a board certified anesthesiologist so they can understand the anesthesia detox procedure.

As stated above their rapid anesthesia detoxification takes place in a private JCAHO Accredited Hospital and their patients are monitored at all times by their highly trained and specialized medical staff. They use an infusion of intravenous medications that are FDA approved that removes opioids from the opiate receptors they have attached themselves to. Naltrexone Therapy is started immediately after this procedure to make sure that the opiate drugs don’t reattach.

Rapid Drug Detox Center provides their patients with Naltrexone Therapy which is non-addicting and comes in three different dosage forms. Their patients are able to choose the form of Naltrexone Therapy they would prefer which includes a Naltrexone Subcutaneous Pellet/Implant, a sustained release injectable ‘IM’ shot, or a daily oral pill form of Naltrexone.

When the detox treatment is completed their patients stay at the hospital for at least 24 hours in a recovery area and are provided close medical supervision and expert care while they rest.

Post Procedure Care: Their patients are then discharged and stay at a hotel, patients are encouraged to have a family member or friend stay with them during this time as a caregiver. If their patient is unable to provide their own caregiver, they are required to hire 24 hour nursing services which are provided through Rapid Drug Detox Centers qualified medical staff. They provide licensed and specially trained medical personnel that stay at the hotel 24 hours a day to monitor their patients and answer any questions the patient or caregivers may have. During the next few days the patient rests and their caregiver assists them when needed.

Patients have a follow up visit with the doctor the second morning after the procedure and they are discharged to go home. They continue to monitor their patients remotely and provide medications if needed for at least a month after they’re patients are home. Patients and their family member have access to their head nurse 24 hours a day 7 days a week in case they need anything.

Accelerated Opiate Detox

The Coleman Institute provides ADT which is a revolutionary Accelerated Detoxification Technique to help their patients with opiate addiction. Opiate painkillers like Percocet, Dilaudid, Vicodin, Demerol, Oxycontin, and Methadone are very addictive as well as heroin. No matter what opiate addiction an individual may be suffering from, ADT can help. When a person abuses narcotic drugs a certain amount of the narcotic attaches to their brain receptors and the ADT technique Coleman Institute provides for their patients helps to remove them in a safe, comfortable and quicker way than detoxing on your own.

Suboxone Detox

Many people are prescribed Suboxone to relieve heroin or methadone addiction withdrawal symptoms. Because Suboxone is addictive there are many people that are unable to stop using the drug after they start because they have had to stay on Suboxone maintenance for a long period of time. The Coleman Institute provides their accelerated detox program for patients addicted to Suboxone which is also used for opiate addiction. They understand the discomfort involved when a patient tries to stop taking Suboxone on their own even when they’re weaned off of the drug. They provide their patients with a safe and much easier Suboxone detox process that’s very effective. This takes around 5 to 8 days and when completed the Naltrexone implant is recommended to their patients.

Methadone Detox

Some treatment centers provide methadone maintenance for their patients addicted to drugs like heroin or oxycontin while they’re working on their recovery and they become dependent on the drug. Sometimes patients come to the Coleman Institute seeking help because they’re now addicted to methadone.

The Coleman Institute provides their Accelerated Detox Program to their methadone addicted patients that’s been modified. It takes 8 days for their patients to completely detox and helps them to stay clean. Their patients that are addicted to methadone are eligible for their extended form of Accelerated Detox Program but they have to be in good health, willing to attend on a daily basis, stay in the local area, agree not to drive, and agree to be fully supervised by someone during the treatment program until the Naltrexone Therapy has begun.

Alcohol Detox

The Coleman Institute has developed a program where almost all alcoholics can safely detoxify on an outpatient basis over a 3 to 4 day period. A screening process is done on their patients to make sure that the outpatient procedure is right for them and to make sure they have the necessary support person that will be able to help them manage their medications at home.

Their patients first undergo a comprehensive history, physical, and lab work. The patient then receives an IV medicine cocktail to replenish depleted nutrients and neurochemicals in the brain. Next their given the Phenobarbital challenge which calms their patient, prevents seizures, keeps them safe and comfortable and begins the detox process. Phenobarbital can be given until the patient’s detox process is under control which is around 3 to 4 hours. Patients are discharged and sent home in the care of their support person. Doses of medications are calculated and dispensed by the patient’s support person. Daily the patient returns to the clinic over the next couple of days until it’s evident that the patient’s detox is completed. The next step is educating their patient about the different options for their ongoing recovery which includes medications, substance abuse counseling and 12 step meetings.

Benzo Detox

Benzo Detox is also provided at the Coleman Institute for patients that have become dependent on Benzodiazepines. Some of the medications that fall under this category include Xanax, Valium, and Klonopin. Flumazenil is used to flush the benzodiazepines out of their patients system quickly and reduce cravings. This is done on an outpatient basis and the patient usually completes their detox in about a week.

The Accelerated Detox Program Coleman Institute provides for their patients is very effective and extremely successful helping them stay clean from alcohol, benzodiazepines, and opiate drugs.
