=====READERS' COMMENTS=====
Regarding last week's Readers' Comments:
I thought atheism was the denial of God. Based on what is written here I'm an atheist. I don't believe so! Webster's defines
atheist as "one who denies God." I'm going to stick with what I know to be true to me: A higher power - God of my understanding -
who is with me and all of us...and Webster's definition. --Bill

RECOVERY THOUGHT:
Be careful of your tricky mind.
RECOVERY TALK:
For millions of years we humans have been mesmerized by our ability to think - to hold opinions and beliefs. But these mental
abilities, while capable of aiding us, often rob us of life. They consume us, and we become their servants.
If we can learn, though, to see our thinking minds as no better or different from our other organs, we can reclaim the primacy of
the moment and remove King Thinking from his throne.
The mind's job is to generate thoughts - just as the lungs' job is to breathe, the heart's is to beat, and the stomach's is to
secrete acids to digest food. The mind is clever, however, and it tricks us into believing that it is more important than our other
organs. The mind refuses to become one among many, and we - its unwitting vehicle - suffer the consequences.
If we went around all day conscious of every beat of our heart and every breath of our lungs, we would soon be crazy. But don't
we do this with every thought that the mind generates? Of course we do. And consequently, aren't we pretty crazy most of the time?
Crazed with opinions? Dogged by resentments? Taking our own and others' inventory? And forgetting the moment? Of course we are;
we're just too crazy to admit it.
We follow the thoughts and opinions of this mind wherever they take us. But we don't have to. We can practice reminding
ourselves that we're thinking and that our thinking sits in the same boat with our breathing - and let it go at that.
Thought comes. Thought goes. Just like the beat of our heart.

=====AN EASTERN PERSPECTIVE ON RECOVERY=====
The most precious gift we can offer others is our presence. When our mindfulness embraces those we love, they will bloom like
flowers. If you love someone but rarely make yourself available to him or her, that is not true love. When your beloved is
suffering, you need to recognize his or her suffering, anxiety, and worries, and just by doing that, you already offer some
relief.
Mindfulness relieves suffering because it is filled with understanding and compassion. When you are really there, showing
yore loving kindness and understanding, the energy of the Holy Spirit is in you.

=====PURE BOLOGNA & HOGWASH=====
When the alcoholic man died, there were questions concerning his sanity, and because of that, his will. The case ended up in
court, and his best drinking buddy was called to the stand.
The lawyer asked the buddy, "Was the deceased in the habit of talking to himself when alone?"
"I don't know," the man replied.
"Come, come," said the lawyer. "You don't know, and yet you pretend that you were very well acquainted with him?"
"That's right," the man said. "The fact is, I never happened to be with him when he was alone."
