They provide their clients with treatment for substance abuse, alcohol/alcoholism, addiction, drug addiction and opiate addiction in their licensed intensive outpatient treatment center. The Center for Recovery’s intensive outpatient treatment programs for teens and adults meets three times a week which includes morning groups (for women), evening adult groups (co-ed) and also an after school adolescent group focusing on marijuana and other drugs of abuse. Their adolescent group also focuses on mental health issues which include depression, anxiety and Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder.

A Sober Companion Program (15-20 hrs. per week) is also provided for clients that would benefit from having a trained coach/companion as well. Their groups are offered in both Denver and Aurora and each group is limited to 8 participants.

Center for Recovery’s Substance Abuse Outpatient Treatment Program

Groups are provided for teens and adults to give them the chance to reach their highest achievements and potential. They believe that recovery is a life-long process which starts with abstinence and provide their clients treatment with dignity and compassion. A wide range of services are provided for their clients with the highest level of care in an environment that’s intimate, supportive and healing.

The Center for Recovery’s outpatient substance abuse services include a complete individual assessment, monitored USs and breathalyzer (when indicated), twelve week intensive outpatient program, aftercare and relapse prevention program, outpatient or inpatient detox, extensive education materials, psychiatric consultation (as needed), introduction to 12 step self-help concepts, cognitive behavioral therapy approach, process and problem solving group therapy, socialization and peer interactions, stress reduction, coping skills, and family sessions.

An adolescent program is also provided by Center for Recovery and is an intensive outpatient substance abuse treatment for teens. This is a state licensed program and their adolescent group meets for 12 weeks, 3 afternoons a week. In their adolescent program, a wide range of core issues as well as self-esteem and self-confidence are addressed so teenagers are able to effectively maintain abstinence from drugs and alcohol.

Horizon is Western Arkansas Counseling and Guidance Center and they provide treatment for adolescents that are in need of help for chemical dependency and co-occurring psychiatric problems. They are a counseling and outdoor adventure program that is staffed with mental health and substance abuse professionals who work together in order to provide adolescents with individualized treatment. Their goal is to help adolescents achieve a productive life that’s free of mental health and substance abuse problems.

Their program is accredited by CARF for children and adolescents for integrated alcohol and other drugs and mental health in areas that include Outpatient Treatment, Residential Treatment, Case Management/Services Coordination and Detoxification.

Horizon provides counseling and an outdoor adventure program and together their team of mental health and substance abuse professionals provides individualized treatment for their young people in need of treatment. A traditional 12 step model of treatment, mental health counseling and outdoor adventure program provides their young people with a holistic approach for their recovery.

Horizon requires family participation because the entire family is affected when the adolescent is going through problems. They promote intensive family involvement followed by ongoing family therapy because Horizon feels it’s critical in terms of successful treatment.

Horizon’s residential treatment is around forty eight to ninety days which is then followed by continuing outpatient care. Their outpatient treatment is provided to individuals, families and groups.

A very important part of treatment is Education and Horizon has certified teachers that provide individualized education in the classroom which is coordinated with the individual resident’s school program. They also offer a pre-GED program for residents that are currently enrolled in their hometown.

Horizon’s outdoor adventure therapy helps young people to improve their skills in terms of decision making and problem solving, this is done through team building and trust exercises. Their adolescents learn to work individually, as team members, and reach goals they have set.

The Serenity House is located in Wallingford Vermont and is a nonprofit private residential substance abuse treatment center and part of Recovery House, Inc. The Serenity House includes a professional staff that helps people wanting to recover from alcohol and drug addiction begin their recovery process. Their staff is professional and dedicated to helping people accomplish their recovery goals from alcohol dependence, drug addiction or both and they provide a wide range of services to help their clients reach their goals. All of their services are based on the client’s individual needs.

Serenity House Services Provided for Their Clients

Detoxification is the first step Serenity House provides for their clients keeping them comfortable and minimizing discomfort that can be experienced at this time. Detox takes place is a comfortable home like setting and atmosphere with around the clock nursing care. There is also a physician that’s on call daily around the clock if needed.

Detoxification from alcohol at The Serenity House in Vermont usually last around 4 days depending on the individual’s progress and needs. They suggest the use of Librium which is a benzodiazepine that’s used to treat alcohol withdrawal symptoms which include shakiness and to also prevent seizures. Other medications can be administers for the symptoms of nausea or diarrhea if needed.

Detoxification from opiates lasts for around 7 days but can be shorter or longer depending on the individual’s progress and needs as well. During the first couple of days their clients can be assessed 4 times which the client chooses. Necessary medications are prescribed according to the needs determined by a clinical opiate withdrawal scale.

• Days 3 and 4, three assessments are done each day
• Days 5 and 6, two assessments are done each day
• Day 7, one assessment is done that day.

Chlordiazepoxide which is Librium is also used during Serenity House’s opiate detoxification protocol including other medications if needed for nausea, stomach cramps, aches and pains, and diarrhea.

There are standard protocols Serenity House follows during the detoxification process but they’re tailored to accommodate the needs of their clients individually because detox can vary for each person. The most common detoxification protocols that are accommodated at Serenity House are withdrawal from alcohol and opiates but they also provide detox protocols for benzodiazepine and cocaine as well.

The policy at Serenity House is to seek their clients input in all other phases of their residential treatment which includes:

Family Program

Growing Beyond Addiction is a program for families or close friends who are involved in the addicts life. They understand that the family also suffers when someone they love has a problem with alcohol or drugs, addiction affects everyone. Topics that are covered include Addiction and Enabling, Addiction and Co-Dependency, and Addiction and Detaching with Love.
